GPA Calculation

The GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's semester credit hours by the quality points earned, summing these values, and dividing by the total semester credit hours attempted. Grades of W, WM, WS, WX, IP, CR, NC, NR, and AU are not counted toward the GPA.

Each student has two GPAs: an institution GPA based on coursework completed at the home/primary Alamo college, and an overall GPA based on coursework completed across all colleges of the Alamo Colleges District.

Once a course is repeated at the institution where the original grade was earned, only the highest grade earned is recorded in the institution GPA.

Academic Standing

A student's home-institution cumulative GPA determines academic standing, reviewed at the end of each fall, spring, and summer semester.

  • Good Standing: cumulative institutional GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Academic Probation: cumulative institutional GPA falls below 2.0.
  • Continued Academic Probation: a 2.0+ semester GPA is earned but the cumulative GPA remains below 2.0.
  • Academic Dismissal: the required semester GPA is not earned while on probation; a first or second dismissal requires sitting out one full fall or spring semester before petitioning to return, a third or later dismissal requires sitting out a full academic year (fall, spring, and summer).

A student not in Good Standing may not participate in public activities, competitive teams, or hold club or class office; a minimum cumulative institution GPA of 2.00 is required to join or remain in any college-authorized student organization.

  • Honors: semester institution GPA of 3.5–3.99.
  • President's Honors: semester institution GPA of 4.0.

How do I convert semester GPA to cumulative GPA at SPC?
Your cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester GPAs across every semester: (semester GPA₁ × credits₁ + … + semester GPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + … + creditsₙ). Save each semester to the tracker on this page, by course or as a quick semester GPA + credits entry, and it works out your cumulative GPA on every save, edit and delete.
Is this SPC GPA calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. GPAWise is free, with no signup, and your courses and saved semesters stay in your browser: nothing is sent to our servers. "Clear all tracker data" on the tracker wipes them at any time.
