GPA Computation and Grade Forgiveness

A ratio of 2.0 between earned grade points and semester units attempted is interpreted as a 2.0 (C) grade point average. The Cumulative GPA and Semester GPA are the only GPAs that appear on the transcript prior to graduation; the Primary Program of Study GPA uses only the best grade earned for each course within the curriculum.

Course repetition: a grade of A may not be repeated for additional credit or to improve any GPA. A grade of B or C may be repeated once — both attempts count in the Cumulative GPA, but only the best grade counts toward the Primary Program of Study GPA. A grade of D, F, or WF may be repeated as many times as necessary until a grade of C or higher is earned.

Undergraduate Grade Forgiveness Policy: students may exclude up to 9 credit hours of Southeastern courses graded D or F from their Primary Program, Southeastern, and Adjusted Cumulative GPA calculations, by petition to their college dean. Excluded grades still count toward the Cumulative GPA used for financial aid satisfactory-academic-progress and scholarship/TOPS retention, and still count in Honors at Graduation calculations.

Academic Warning, Probation, and Suspension

Academic warning applies when a student's cumulative GPA is between 2.0 and 2.4 — it carries no penalty but signals approaching probation. A student is placed on academic probation whenever the cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, and remains on probation until it reaches 2.0 or higher.

A student on academic probation is suspended at the end of any semester in which the semester GPA is below 2.0 (a beginning freshman may be placed on probation after the first semester but cannot be suspended). A first suspension allows return at the start of the next regular semester; a second or subsequent suspension is for one calendar year. Readmission requires a formal application after the suspension period.

Graduation GPA Requirement

A candidate for a degree must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0 (C) on all coursework, on all work attempted at Southeastern, and on all work in the major field — or a minimum Degree GPA of 2.0 (C) on all coursework applicable to the curriculum, the major field, and Southeastern coursework. Certain curricula, colleges, or professional programs set higher GPA requirements for admission or graduation.

How do I convert semester GPA to cumulative GPA at SLU?
Your cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester GPAs across every semester: (semester GPA₁ × credits₁ + … + semester GPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + … + creditsₙ). Save each semester to the tracker on this page, by course or as a quick semester GPA + credits entry, and it works out your cumulative GPA on every save, edit and delete.
Is this SLU GPA calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. GPAWise is free, with no signup, and your courses and saved semesters stay in your browser: nothing is sent to our servers. "Clear all tracker data" on the tracker wipes them at any time.
