How GPA Is Calculated
The grade-point average is the ratio of total grade points earned to total credit hours attempted, excluding courses taken on a pass/fail basis and courses graded W or I. Total grade points are found by multiplying a course's credit hours by the grade points assigned to the grade earned (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, E=0).
If a course is repeated, the highest grade earned counts as the official grade for the course and is the only attempt included in the cumulative GPA.
A student readmitted after being out of KCTCS colleges for two or more years, who completes at least 12 credit hours with a GPA of 2.0 or better after readmission, may elect "academic bankruptcy": excluding all pre-interruption coursework from the GPA calculation (credit for prior A/B/C/D/P grades is still kept). This option may be used only once.

Academic Probation and Suspension
A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 at the end of a term is placed on academic probation, and is removed from probation by earning at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
A student on probation for two consecutive terms who fails to earn at least a 2.0 cumulative or term GPA in the third term is academically suspended, and may not enroll in courses counting toward a KCTCS degree.
A suspended student may seek reinstatement after remaining out of the college for at least one 16-week semester (two 16-week semesters after a second suspension), with evidence of ability to perform at the required level. Upon reinstatement the student returns to probation status.
