How grading works at Great Basin College

Great Basin College grades on a standard 4.0-point scale, from A (4.00) down to F (0.00), with +/- modifiers between A- and D- in 0.3-point steps.

There is no A+ at GBC — a plain A is the highest grade, worth 4.00 grade points.

How your GPA is calculated at Great Basin College

Your GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing the totals for every course you've attempted at GBC, and dividing by the total graded credit hours.

If you repeat a course, only the higher grade counts toward your GPA — the original grade stays on your transcript, but credit is awarded only once (except for courses the catalog specifically designates as allowable repeats).

An Incomplete (I) grade is a tentative mark and is not used in computing your GPA.

Dean's List and graduation honors at Great Basin College

Each semester, students with a declared major, a GPA between 3.50 and 4.0, and at least 12 enrolled credits (excluding pass/withdraw, developmental, community-education, or audited courses) make the Dean's List. Any incomplete grade that semester disqualifies a student.

Graduates are also recognized with Latin honors based on cumulative GPA:

Cum LaudeMagna Cum LaudeSumma Cum Laude
Associate degrees/certificates3.50–3.693.70–3.893.90–4.00
Bachelor's degrees3.50–3.693.70–3.893.90 or higher, with an A in the program capstone course

Bachelor's graduates who reach 3.90 or higher without an A in their capstone course are awarded Magna Cum Laude instead. Honors designation also requires 30 credits completed at GBC (30 upper-division credits for bachelor's degrees).

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at GBC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at GBC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Great Basin College (GBC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does Great Basin College award an A+?

No. GBC's grading scale tops out at a plain A, worth 4.00 grade points — there is no A+ anywhere on the scale.
