How your GPA is calculated at Northeast State

Your scholastic standing is expressed as a quality point ratio: total quality points earned divided by total semester hours attempted, less any hours you repeat. To meet degree requirements, you must maintain an overall 2.0 GPA.

Grades of IP (In Progress, learning-support courses), S and N (satisfactory/unacceptable), W (withdrawal), and AU (audit) are not computed in your overall GPA. You may take no more than 8 hours of coursework graded S/N.

If you repeat a course in which you earned a C or lower, your most recent grade replaces all previous grades for GPA, academic standing, and graduation purposes. Repeating a course in which you earned a B or higher requires approval from the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Academic probation and suspension

If your cumulative GPA (including any learning-support courses) for the hours you've attempted falls below 2.0 at the end of any term, you're placed on academic probation for the following term.

While on probation, you must, by the end of your next term, either reach the minimum cumulative retention standard or earn a 2.0 GPA for that term — meeting the term GPA alone lets you continue under probation. Failing both results in academic suspension for one term (summer doesn't count). Suspended students may appeal to the Admissions Subcommittee of the Academic Affairs Committee, citing extenuating circumstances.

Requirements to graduate from Northeast State

To earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science, or Associate of Science in Teaching degree (or a certificate), you must: complete a minimum of 60 college-level semester hours (or the required hours for a certificate); earn at least a 2.0 GPA; complete at least 25% of your credit hours at Northeast State; and fulfill all program-specific requirements in the catalog.

You may graduate under the requirements of the catalog in effect when you first enrolled, provided you graduate within six years of that enrollment.

Graduation honors and honors lists

Associate-degree graduates are recognized by final cumulative GPA: Summa Cum Laude (3.9–4.0), Magna Cum Laude (3.75–3.89), and Cum Laude (3.5–3.74). Learning-support GPA doesn't count toward semester or graduation honors.

Each fall and spring term, students completing at least 12 college-level semester hours with a 4.0 GPA are named to the President's Academic Honors List; those with a 3.50–3.99 GPA are named to the Vice President's Academic Honors List.

Northeast State Honors requires a 3.25 GPA (after 12 college-level hours, or an ACT composite of 25 / SAT combined 1140 as an entering freshman) to join and to continue; graduates who complete 18 Honors hours at a 3.25 GPA or higher receive honors recognition on their diploma.

How transfer credit affects your GPA

Transfer credits used to satisfy Northeast State's degree requirements are not averaged with your Northeast State GPA to calculate your graduation average.

Transfer credit hours and quality points also do not count toward the GPA used for academic probation and dismissal decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at NeSCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at NeSCC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Northeast State Community College (NeSCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
