How course grades are determined

Each course's final grade is based on continuous assessment: class attendance, quizzes, an assignment, a mandatory presentation, a midterm test and a semester final examination.

ComponentWeight
Class attendance7%
3 quizzes15%
Assignment5%
Presentation (mandatory)8%
Midterm test25%
Semester final examination40%

An "Incomplete" (I) grade may be given at the end of a semester when a student has completed every requirement except the final examination. If not resolved within three weeks of the next semester starting, an unresolved I automatically converts to F.

GPA, CGPA, and retaking a course

Grade point average (GPA) is the credit-weighted average of the grade points earned in a semester's courses; CGPA is the cumulative equivalent across all completed semesters.

A course passed with a grade lower than B may be repeated to improve it; the earlier attempt's grade is cancelled and only the latest attempt counts toward GPA/CGPA. A student who fails a course may repeat it at most twice, on payment of the course fee.

Academic probation

Good academic standing requires a CGPA of at least 2.00. A student whose CGPA and/or GPA falls below 2.00 is placed on academic probation and has a maximum of three semesters to raise it back to 2.00 or above, failing which the student is dropped from the program.

Dean's List, VC's List, and Chancellor's Award

A full-time student earning a GPA of 3.75 or above in a regular semester is placed on the Dean's Honor List. A student maintaining a CGPA of 3.75 or above through the 3rd and 4th semesters is placed on the Vice-Chancellor's Honor List and receives an individual citation. Students reaching a 3.90 CGPA receive the Chancellor's Award.

Transfer credit and course waivers

Students transferring from another recognized university must submit transcripts and certificates/mark sheets (SSC/HSC, or O-level/A-level equivalents); these are evaluated against DIU's minimum entry requirements.

A student who has completed a bachelor's degree course at another recognized university may apply to waive an equivalent foundation course if they obtained at least a "B" grade or over 50% marks in that specific course; waivers require approval from DIU's Equivalence Committee.

Students on an outgoing exchange program may earn transfer credit at partner universities through the Office of International Affairs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at DIU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at DIU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Daffodil International University (DIU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
