How grading works at Jahangirnagar University

Jahangirnagar University converts the total numerical marks a student earns in each theoretical and practical course into a letter grade. Eleven letter grades may be assigned in total: ten scored grades from A+ down to F, plus "I" for an incomplete course.

The qualifying pass grade for a course is D. Only courses graded D or higher count toward a student's earned credits. If a student receives an F in a course, they must repeat it, provided they achieve at least a 2.75 GPA that semester; a maximum of two F grades is allowed in a single semester, and a student with more than two F grades in the same semester must repeat the entire semester.

How GPA and CGPA are calculated at Jahangirnagar University

Grade Point Average (GPA) is the weighted average of the grade points earned in all courses a student passes in a semester, weighted by each course's credit hours.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated by averaging the GPAs of two or more successive semesters, using each semester's total credit hours as the weight.

Probation, dismissal, and repeating a semester at Jahangirnagar University

A student must normally maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5 each semester. A student whose CGPA falls below 2.50 but remains at or above 2.00 in any semester is placed on probation for the next semester; failing to raise CGPA to 2.50 by the end of that probation semester leads to dismissal from the program, subject to the university's Repeater provisions.

A student who fails to secure a 2.5 CGPA after two successive semesters (despite having had a GPA of 2.5 or above the semester before that) becomes a repeater. Repeating a semester for this reason is permitted only twice across a student's first through seventh semesters; a separate, one-time repeat allowance also exists for a student who misses a semester's course-end examinations for a valid reason such as illness.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at JU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at JU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Jahangirnagar University (JU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
What CGPA do you need to graduate from Jahangirnagar University?

A minimum CGPA of 2.50 after eight semesters is required for a Bachelor's (Honours) degree, and the degree must be completed within six academic years of first admission.

What happens if you fail a course at Jahangirnagar University?

What CGPA triggers academic probation at Jahangirnagar University?

A CGPA below 2.50 but at or above 2.00 in any semester places a student on probation for the next semester. Failing to raise the CGPA back to 2.50 by the end of that probation semester leads to dismissal from the program, subject to the university's Repeater provisions.
