Clarkson University GPA Calculator

Clarkson's quality-point ratio (GPA) is computed by multiplying the quality points earned in each course by its credit hours, summing those products, and dividing by the total credit hours attempted. Grades of P, NC, I, W, and LW carry no quality-point value and are not factored into the GPA.

Undergraduate students may repeat a course in which they earned below a C (2.000) — that is, C-, D, or F. When a course is repeated, only the higher grade is used in the official GPA calculation; the original grade remains on the transcript but is excluded from the GPA.

Undergraduate academic standing is assigned at the end of each fall or spring semester based on that semester's GPA. A student in good standing whose semester GPA falls below 2.000 is placed on academic warning. A student already on warning or probation whose semester GPA is still below 2.000 (or who fails to complete at least 12 graded credit hours) progresses to probation and then separation. A semester GPA below 1.000 results in immediate separation from the University.

To graduate, an undergraduate student must achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.000. Students matriculating as Class of 2004 or later must also achieve at least a 2.000 GPA in their major field of study, and in each minor completed.

An undergraduate enrolled in at least 14 credits (12 or more for a letter grade), with no failing grades, qualifies for the Dean's List with a semester quality-point average of at least 3.250, or for the Presidential Scholar List with a semester quality-point average of at least 3.800. Credit from cross-registered courses cannot be used to qualify for either honor.

Courses taken through cross-registration (e.g. with other Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley institutions) are treated as transfer credit: an undergraduate must earn at least a C (2.000) to receive credit, but the grade is not factored into the student's Clarkson GPA.
