Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) GPA Calculator

Beyond the letter grades counted in the GPA, Westmoreland's catalog defines additional symbols that do not affect the GPA. Evaluative symbols not included in the GPA: P (Pass, at least satisfactory), NP (No Pass), TA/TB/TC/TD (transfer-in grades equivalent to A/B/C/D), AU (Course Audit), and WF (Withdrawn Failure). Non-evaluative symbols: I (Incomplete), I^ (Incomplete for P/NP courses), RD (Report Delayed), W (Withdrawal), M (Military Withdrawal), MW (Medical Withdrawal), CR (Credit Awarded), and D**/F** (Academic Forgiveness notations).

GPA is computed by multiplying each grade's point value by the credit hours of the course, summing these grade points, and dividing by the total credit hours attempted for a grade. Courses numbered below 100 (developmental courses) are excluded from the GPA calculation entirely.

Students may repeat a course once without permission; a third or subsequent attempt requires written approval from a dean or department chair. Only the most recent evaluative grade counts toward credential progress.

To graduate, a student must apply via the Graduation application in the Student Portal; complete the program requirements in effect at initial enrollment or a later catalog; earn at least 30 credits toward a degree (or 15 credits toward a diploma) at Westmoreland under its own faculty instruction and evaluation, not counting transfer credit, CLEP, or exam/portfolio credit; achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher; and fulfill all financial obligations to the college.

Each semester, students with a semester GPA of 4.0 are named to the President's List; students with a semester GPA between 3.50 and 3.99 are named to the Dean's List (developmental courses are excluded from this calculation).

Graduation honors: Summa Cum Laude (overall GPA of 4.0), Magna Cum Laude (overall GPA between 3.75 and 3.99), and Cum Laude (overall GPA between 3.50 and 3.74).

Credits earned at other institutions may transfer to Westmoreland if the grade received was "C" or higher, with official transcripts sent directly to the Admissions Office. There is no limit on the number of transfer hours accepted, though at least 30 credits (degree) or 15 credits (diploma) must still be earned at Westmoreland under its own faculty instruction and evaluation. Evaluation of coursework completed more than 10 years before the transfer request is at the college's discretion. Advanced Placement (score of 3 or higher), CLEP, and DANTES/DSST exam credit are also accepted, as is portfolio assessment of prior learning.
