Western Kentucky University (WKU) GPA Calculator

WKU uses the letters A, B, C, D, F, P, and X to indicate academic proficiency — no plus/minus grades exist. FN ("failure due to nonattendance," for ceasing to attend through the 60% point of a term) carries the same zero quality-point treatment as F. P (Pass) and X (Incomplete) carry no quality-point value at all; an unresolved X automatically becomes F after the first twelve weeks of the next full term (summer excluded).

Overall GPA is the ratio of total quality points to total GPA hours attempted (including transfer work); the WKU GPA uses the same ratio for WKU coursework only. F counts toward GPA hours attempted; P does not count in the GPA at all.

If a course is repeated, only the higher grade counts toward GPA (the two highest if repeated a second time), though every attempt stays on the record. A student may attempt a single course no more than three times; only two courses with a grade of C or above may be repeated, and no more than six courses total.

A 2.0 overall and institutional GPA is required to remain in Good Standing. If a term GPA falls below 2.0 while the overall and institutional GPA stay at 2.0 or above, the standing becomes Academic Warning. If the overall and/or institutional GPA falls below 2.0, the standing becomes Academic Probation, which requires a 2.0 term GPA each term to continue. Failing to earn a 2.0 term GPA while on Academic Probation results in Academic Dismissal and a one-calendar-year bar on enrollment (appealable).

An overall grade point average of 2.0 or better is required to meet the requirements for graduation.
