How the GPA Is Calculated at Ithaca College

Grades of P (Pass), I (Incomplete), S (Satisfactory), W (Withdrawal), and NGS (No Grade Submitted) are not counted in the GPA — only the twelve lettered A through F grades carry quality points. The GPA is truncated, not rounded.

Ithaca also offers a Satisfactory/D/Fail (S/D/F) option in select courses: a grade of C- or better is recorded as S and excluded from the GPA, while a grade of D+, D, D-, or F is recorded and counted into the GPA as usual. Each undergraduate may elect S/D/F in no more than four courses toward their degree, one per semester, and may rescind the election for a regular letter grade until the end of the 10th week of classes.

Repeating a Course at Ithaca College

A non-repeatable course may be repeated only once. If the original grade was D+ or lower, only the higher of the two grades counts toward the cumulative GPA; if the original grade was above D+, both attempts are averaged into the cumulative GPA. Credit toward graduation is granted only once regardless. This policy applies only to courses completed before the degree is conferred — the cumulative GPA is not adjusted for courses repeated afterward.

Repeatable courses (per the individual course description) may be taken multiple times for credit up to a stated limit; retaking beyond that limit falls back to the non-repeatable rules above.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Ithaca College?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Ithaca College?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Ithaca College GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does Ithaca College award an A+?

No. Ithaca College's published grading system runs from A (4.00) down through F (0), with A- at 3.70 as the top of the plus/minus range — no A+ grade is listed anywhere in the official grading table.

Does an Incomplete (I) affect my GPA at Ithaca College?

Not while it's outstanding — an Incomplete carries no grade-point value and is excluded from GPA calculations. But if the coursework isn't finished by the deadline (no later than the end of the following semester), a grade of F is recorded on the transcript and then counts in the GPA like any other F.

Does the S/D/F option affect my GPA at Ithaca College?

Only if you don't pass well enough. A grade of C- or better under the Satisfactory/D/Fail option is recorded as S and excluded from your GPA. A grade of D+, D, D-, or F is recorded as such and is calculated into your GPA as usual.
