GPA Rules
The G.P.A. is the total points divided by the total semester hours in which grades of A through F are received. Grades of P, NP, AD, I, IP, W, and NG carry no grade points and are excluded from the G.P.A. computation.
- Repeating courses: only courses in which a grade of C-, D+, D, D-, F, or NP was received may be repeated for academic credit, and only once. Only the latest grade counts toward the G.P.A. and toward the credit hours required for graduation; both the original and repeat grade remain on the permanent record.
- Incomplete (I): allowed only with dean approval, and converts to F if the coursework is not completed within one year.
- Pass/No Pass: designated courses may be taken P/NP; neither P nor NP is included in the G.P.A. computation.
- Withdrawal (W): assigned when a student officially withdraws from a course by the deadline in the University calendar; not included in the G.P.A.
- Audit (AD): no credit and no grade points; recorded on the permanent record.
