Grades That Don't Count Toward Your GPA
Beyond the standard letter grades, Stetson's transcript uses several notations that are excluded from GPA calculation:
- I (Incomplete) — coursework not yet finished, with an approved extension from the academic Dean.
- P (Pass) — credit is earned; does not affect the GPA.
- W (Withdrawal before mid-term) — no credit earned, no GPA effect.
- WP (Withdrawal after mid-term, passing) — no credit earned, no GPA effect.
- X (Late drop without academic penalty) — no credit earned, no GPA effect.
- NR — grade not yet reported.
Two notations are the exception: WF (withdrawal after mid-term, failing) and XF (late drop with academic penalty) earn no credit but are still counted as credits attempted, and both do affect the GPA.

How Your GPA Is Calculated
Stetson's cumulative grade-point average (GPA) is based on a four-point scale, and grades are carried to the third decimal without rounding. The GPA is determined by dividing the numerical value of your grades by your total GPA credits, and it includes all failed courses except for grades excluded under the Course Exclusion Policy. Only courses taken at Stetson count toward your Stetson cumulative GPA.
A separate major GPA is calculated from the grades earned in courses that satisfy your major requirements, and a minor GPA is calculated the same way from your minor's required courses.
