How grading works at Davenport University

Davenport grades on a 4.0 scale with 12 letter grades: A (4.00), A- (3.70), B+ (3.30), B (3.00), B- (2.70), C+ (2.30), C (2.00), C- (1.70), D+ (1.30), D (1.00), F (0.00), and NF (0.00, "No Show Failing").

There is no A+ — A itself, at 4.00, is the top of the scale, and there is no D- below D.

Several marks appear on a Davenport transcript but carry no grade-point value and are not computed in your GPA: AU (Audit), CR (Credit), I (Incomplete), LATE, NC (No Credit), P (Pass), W (Withdrawal), and WM (Withdrawal-Military). Letter grades earned in Foundations of Learning (below college-level, 000-level) courses carry a *@ suffix and are also excluded from your GPA.

How your GPA is calculated at Davenport

Your cumulative GPA is the total Quality Points you've earned divided by the total credit hours you've attempted, counting only credits attempted at Davenport University. Your major GPA is calculated the same way, using only your major coursework.

If you retake a course you've already received credit for, only the higher of the two grades counts toward your GPA — but both attempts stay on your transcript, and you receive credit only once. You generally can't retake the first course in a sequence once you hold credit for the second course in that sequence.

Academic Fresh Start lets you return after at least three consecutive years away and start over with a clean cumulative GPA (keeping credit for all "C" grades or better), provided you earn at least 12 letter-graded credits after re-entry at a 2.5 GPA or higher and apply through the Registrar.

Academic probation, suspension, and dismissal at Davenport

Your GPA is checked at the end of every semester. A cumulative GPA below 2.0 places you on Probation. If your semester GPA rises above 2.0 while your cumulative GPA stays below 2.0, you move to Probation with Improvement.

Failing to reach a 2.0 semester GPA and a 2.0 cumulative GPA by your third semester or later results in Academic Suspension. Re-entry requires a semester's lapse, an appeal letter, and maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA every semester after you return until your cumulative GPA reaches 2.0.

Failing to meet those re-entry conditions leads to Academic Dismissal (re-entry requires evidence of successful coursework elsewhere and at least a 2.5 GPA every semester after you return), and failing dismissal's conditions leads to Final Dismissal, with no further re-entry eligibility.

Minimum GPA to graduate from Davenport

You need a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA plus a 2.3 GPA in your major to graduate. Nursing students need a 2.7 major GPA instead, and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate students need a 2.3 overall GPA in their required courses. You'll also need to meet Davenport's credit-hour and residency requirements — a minimum of 60 semester hours for an associate's degree or 120 for a bachelor's, per Michigan Department of Education standards.

Graduation honors and the President's / Dean's List at Davenport

Associate's and bachelor's graduates with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher earn graduation honors: With Honor (3.50–3.69), With High Honor (3.70–3.89), or With Highest Honor (3.90–4.00, gold cords at commencement). The designation appears on your diploma and transcript.

Each semester, undergraduates earning a 3.80+ semester GPA (on 6 or more GPA-counted credits) make the President's List, and those earning a 3.50–3.79 semester GPA (same credit condition) make the Dean's List — both are noted on your official transcript.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at DU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at DU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Davenport University (DU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does Davenport University give A+ grades?

No. Davenport's grading table starts at A, worth 4.00 grade points — there is no A+ variant, and no discretionary modifier language, anywhere in the catalog's grading section.

What's the difference between an F and an NF grade at Davenport?

Both are worth 0.00 grade points and both count toward your GPA. F is a standard failing grade. NF ("No Show Failing") is used when a class was never officially dropped and the student did not show up — it carries the same 0.00 grade-point impact as F.

If I repeat a class at Davenport, does it count twice in my GPA?

No. Only the higher of your two grades counts toward your GPA. Both attempts remain on your transcript, and you receive credit for the course only once.

What GPA do I need to stay in good standing at Davenport?

You need a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Falling below that triggers Probation, then Academic Suspension if you don't recover by your third semester, and eventually Dismissal if suspension's re-entry conditions aren't met.
