How the GPA Is Calculated

The grade point average (GPA) is determined by multiplying credit hours attempted by the quality points earned for each course, then dividing total quality points earned by total hours attempted. Quality points are awarded only for courses taken in residence at Saint Leo University; no quality points are awarded for transfer credit.

If a student fails a course at Saint Leo University and later repeats it (at Saint Leo or elsewhere) with a passing grade, the attempted hours for the original F are removed from the GPA calculation, though the F grade remains listed on the transcript.

Academic Sanctions Policy

To remain in good standing, undergraduate students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. Warning, probation, and suspension thresholds scale with attempted hours:

  • 12-30 hours attempted: Warning 1.80-1.99, Probation 1.50-1.79, Suspension below 1.50
  • 31-59 hours attempted: Warning 1.90-1.99, Probation 1.70-1.89, Suspension below 1.70
  • 60-89 hours attempted: Probation 1.90-1.99, Suspension below 1.90
  • 90+ hours attempted: Suspension below 2.00

Students academically dismissed are permanently terminated and may not be readmitted.

Minimum GPA to Graduate

Candidates for undergraduate degrees must obtain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.000 and a major grade point average of at least 2.000. Additional majors and minors also require at least a 2.000 program GPA; some programs require a higher cumulative GPA.

Dean's List and Graduation Honors

The Dean's List is issued at the end of January, May, and August to students who earn at least 12 new credits with a term GPA of 3.65 or higher.

Latin honors at graduation are based on cumulative GPA: Summa Cum Laude 3.95 and above, Magna Cum Laude 3.85 and above, Cum Laude 3.65 and above. A minimum of 30 credit hours at Saint Leo University is required for honors eligibility, and transferred grades are not included in the honors GPA calculation. Honors are not awarded for the associate of arts degree or for graduate degrees.

Transfer Credit and the GPA

No quality points are awarded for transfer credit, so transferred courses do not affect the Saint Leo University cumulative GPA. Credit is granted only for courses in which a D or higher was earned at a regionally accredited institution. Up to 64 credit hours may be transferred from community or junior colleges.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Saint Leo University?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Saint Leo University?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Saint Leo University GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
