How the GPA Is Calculated

Both the semester GPA and the cumulative GPA are calculated at the end of each term and shown on the official transcript. Grades earned in math and English corequisite support classes and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes are not part of the GPA calculation, since students earn Equivalent Hours (EH) instead of credits for these courses.

Grades of H (Audit), I (Incomplete), NA (Never Attended), P (Passing, nongraded course), and W (Withdrawal) are not used in the GPA calculation. FX (failure due to ceased attendance) is treated the same as F.

When a course is repeated, the original grade stays on the transcript but no longer counts toward attempted credits or the cumulative GPA; the newest grade is normally the one used for that course, unless the newest attempt was a W or NA.

Academic Standing

Cumulative GPA is recomputed at the end of each fall, spring, and summer semester to determine academic standing. Students who have attempted more than 20 credit hours must maintain the following minimum cumulative GPA:

Credits AttemptedMinimum GPA
6-181.50
19-311.75
32-441.85
45 or more2.00

Students who fall below the minimum are placed on Academic Warning, then Academic Restriction, then Academic Dismissal if a 2.00 semester GPA is not achieved at each stage.

Graduation Requirements

Associate degrees (A.A., A.S., A.A.S., A.A.T.) require a minimum of 60 credit hours, with at least 15 credits earned at Prince George's Community College. No more than 30 credits may be earned through nontraditional learning modes, and no more than 15 of those through portfolio assessment or challenge exams. An overall GPA of at least 2.00 is required for all courses taken at the College (A.A.T. programs may have different minimum GPA requirements). Certificate programs likewise require an overall GPA of at least 2.00 and at least 15 credit hours earned at the College.

Dean's List and Graduation Honors

The Dean's List is published each semester for students, full or part time, who have completed at least 12 college-level credit hours at PGCC with a GPA of 3.50 or above.

Associate degree recipients are recognized with graduation honors based on overall GPA: With Honor (3.50-3.69), With High Honor (3.70-3.94), and With Highest Honor (3.95 or higher). Certificate students are not eligible for these honors designations.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at PGCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at PGCC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Prince George's Community College (PGCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
