Louisiana Tech University GPA Calculator

Louisiana Tech grades on a traditional 4.0 scale with five letter grades: A (4 quality points), B (3), C (2), D (1), and F (0), each per semester hour.

There is no A+ and no plus/minus grading at all — A itself, at 4.0, is the top of the scale.

Several marks appear on a transcript but carry no quality points and are not computed in any GPA: S (Satisfactory), GC (Graduate Credit), W (Withdrew), and NC (No Credit). An Incomplete (I) is combined with the letter grade representing your work to that point (e.g. IA, IB) and is factored in once resolved.

Louisiana Tech runs on the quarter system. Your quarterly GPA divides the quality points earned that quarter by the semester hours attempted that quarter; your cumulative GPA divides your total quality points earned by your total hours attempted. Undergraduate, graduate, and graduate-certificate GPAs are tracked separately and are never combined.

A separate, department-maintained earned GPA is used for eligibility into upper-division courses, practicums, and degree conferral: it's computed by subtracting quality points and hours for repeated classes (and, for hours, for F grades) from your totals. The earned GPA is not shown on your transcript.

You're expected to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to remain in good standing. Falling below a 2.0 cumulative GPA places you on academic probation; you stay on probation, as long as each quarter's GPA is at least 2.0, until your cumulative GPA climbs back to 2.0 or higher.

Failing to earn at least a 2.0 GPA in any quarter while on probation leads to suspension — one quarter for a first suspension, one calendar year for any subsequent suspension. First-time freshmen admitted in good standing aren't suspended before completing three quarters of enrollment.

Both associate and baccalaureate candidates need a "C" average on hours earned. If you're more than 6 quality points short of a C average (associate degree) or 9 quality points short (baccalaureate degree) at the start of your final quarter, you won't be allowed to register for graduation.

Transfer students must also earn a minimum 2.0 GPA on the semester hours completed in residence at Louisiana Tech to meet residency requirements for their degree.

Each quarter, the President's Honor List recognizes undergraduates with a 3.8+ GPA, and the Dean's Honor List recognizes a 3.5+ GPA — both require at least 9 semester hours completed (excluding audit/pass-fail), no Incomplete grade, no grade below a B (President's) or C (Dean's), and only 100-level-or-above coursework.

At graduation, Baccalaureate Latin Honors require a cumulative GPA of 3.50 (cum laude), 3.70 (magna cum laude), or 3.90 (summa cum laude) on all hours pursued, with at least 30 semester hours earned at Louisiana Tech. Associate Degree Honors require a 3.30 GPA (Honors) or 3.70 GPA (Distinction) on at least 15 semester hours earned at Louisiana Tech.

Louisiana Tech participates in Louisiana's statewide Articulation Policy under the Board of Regents, using the Statewide Student Transfer Guide and Articulation System Matrices to set transfer equivalencies among Louisiana's public colleges and universities.

Many Louisiana Tech courses also carry a Louisiana Common Course Number (LCCN) — a standardized 4-letter, 4-digit code shared across the state's public institutions to make transfer credit easier to identify.
