Liberty University (LU) GPA Calculator

Liberty grades undergraduates on a 4.0 scale using five base letters plus one non-attendance code: A (4), B (3), C (2), D (1), F (0), and FN — Failure for Non-Attendance (0). There is no A+ and no plus/minus grades at the undergraduate level.

Each course also has its own 100-point (out of a University-wide 1,000-point standard) scale posted in its syllabus — for example A is typically 900–1,000 points — which the instructor uses to decide the course's final letter grade. That per-course point scale is separate from, and feeds into, the letter/quality-point table above.

Your GPA is quality points earned divided by GPA hours completed. Grades of A, B, C, D, F, and FN count toward GPA hours; grades of AU, I, IP, NF, NP, P, Q, R, and W do not count at all. Only courses taken at Liberty are used in computing the GPA, and your cumulative GPA is calculated to the hundredths place and not rounded.

If you repeat a course, only your highest grade counts toward your GPA under the Undergraduate Repeat Policy — the lower grade stays on your transcript (marked "E" for excluded) but drops out of your GPA calculation.

The minimum cumulative GPA required to stay in good academic standing rises as you earn more hours: 1.50 for your first 24 hours, 1.65 through 48 hours, 1.85 through 72 hours, and 2.00 from 72 hours onward. Falling below the required level leads first to Academic Warning, then Academic Probation, then Academic Suspension if your GPA doesn't recover.

A cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher is required for graduation, unless a specific major or minor requires higher. Only grades of C or above in upper-level major/minor courses count toward those requirements (some majors require C or better in all major courses).

The Dean's List recognizes undergraduate students who earn 12 or more GPA hours with a term GPA of 3.50 or above.

Graduation honors for bachelor's degree students who have earned 60 or more hours at Liberty require a cumulative GPA of 3.50–3.66 (Distinction/cum laude), 3.67–3.84 (magna cum laude), or 3.85–4.00 (summa cum laude). Students with fewer than 60 hours at Liberty need slightly higher GPAs: 3.60–3.76, 3.77–3.94, and 3.95–4.00 respectively. Associate degree students with a 3.50 cumulative GPA receive honors at Commencement.

Transfer coursework generally needs a grade of "C-" or higher to be accepted, from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Only courses taken at Liberty itself are used to compute your Liberty GPA — accepted transfer credit is recorded on your transcript but carries no GPA value.
