Non-Letter Grade Notations
Alongside the A-D letter grades, L&C's catalog lists several notations that are not counted when computing GPA:
- AU (Audit) — audited courses require attendance but not exams and carry no college credit; not counted in the GPA.
- I (Incomplete) — assigned when extenuating circumstances prevent a student in good standing from completing course requirements; must be resolved within two weeks before the end of the next regular semester or an F is automatically recorded.
- P (Proficiency credit), PR (Progress), and the Z-series proficiency codes — awarded for credit-by-exam, prior learning, or unsuccessful progress in developmental courses; not included in the GPA calculation.
- S (Satisfactory) and X (Unsatisfactory) — used for courses designated pass/fail; not counted in the GPA.
- W (Withdrawal), including the WA/WB/WC/WD/WF/WI/WS/WX/WPR variants recorded through Academic Renewal — not counted in the GPA.

How GPA Is Calculated
Grade point average is computed by dividing the total quality points earned by the total credit hours completed: each course's credit hours are multiplied by its grade's quality-point value, and the results are summed and divided by total credit hours attempted.
Students may attempt most courses up to three times after earning a "PR," "D," "W," "X," or "F"; only the highest grade earned counts toward the GPA. After a third unsuccessful attempt, the student must obtain advisor approval to enroll again.

Academic Probation and Suspension
Good standing requires a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. A student is placed on academic probation if their cumulative GPA is below 1.75 with fewer than 16 attempted credit hours, or below 2.00 with 16 or more attempted credit hours; while on probation, course loads are limited to 14 credit hours in fall/spring or 7 in summer, and an advisor meeting is required before registering.
A student on probation whose cumulative GPA remains below 2.00 after attempting 24 or more credit hours, with a semester GPA also below 2.00, is placed on academic suspension and must develop a Student Success Plan with an advisor.
Students with an L&C GPA below 2.00 who have not enrolled for four or more years may apply for Academic Renewal, which voids all previous L&C grades (replacing them with a "W" notation); it can be granted only once and cannot be reversed.

GPA Requirement for Graduation
To graduate, a student must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 for courses attempted at L&C subject to the academic standards, in addition to completing program credit-hour and residency requirements.
Degree and certificate requirements must be completed under a catalog no more than six years old at the time of graduation, absent an exception approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Dean's List, President's List, and Graduation Honors
Students enrolled in (or, across two or more semesters, having accumulated) 12 or more credit hours are named to the Dean's List with a semester or cumulative GPA between 3.250 and 3.749, or to the President's List with a GPA of 3.750 or higher.
Graduates with a cumulative GPA between 3.250 and 3.749 in their degree receive Honors; with a GPA of 3.750 or higher, High Honors. The designation appears on the transcript and diploma but does not apply to certificates.

Transfer Students
L&C's academic standards apply to transfer students. Credit hours earned at a previous institution are included toward satisfying L&C's graduation and academic-standards requirements, but the grade points from those transfer courses are not included.
