Georgia College (GCSU) GPA Calculator

Georgia College equates letter grades to numerical points to compute the grade-point average: A = 4 points (Excellent), B = 3 points (Good), C = 2 points (Satisfactory), D = 1 point (Passing), F = 0 points (Failing), WF = 0 points (Withdrew failing).

Georgia College uses the University System of Georgia uniform grading scale and does not accept plus/minus grades. Georgia College truncates all GPAs to the second decimal point.

The following symbols are not included in the determination of the grade-point average: I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal), S (Satisfactory, non-coursework credit), U (Unsatisfactory, non-coursework), V (Audit), K (Credit-by-examination), IP (In Progress), and NR (Not Reported).

Georgia College records three separate grade point averages on student transcripts:

• Term average — based on all work attempted in a single semester.
• Regents' cumulative average — calculated on all courses attempted at Georgia College in which a grade of A, B, C, D, F, or WF was received; all repeated attempts are included; transfer credit is excluded.
• Institutional average — used to determine academic standing and graduation eligibility; only the last earned grade counts when a course is repeated.

When transferring or applying to graduate/professional school, many receiving institutions use the Regents' cumulative average or their own method.

A student's academic standing is determined by the institutional GPA at the end of each semester. A student is in good standing at an institutional GPA of at least 1.75 with 0-29 overall hours earned, or at least 2.0 with 30 or more overall hours earned.

A student whose institutional average falls below the standard for good standing incurs academic warning. Failing to return to good standing by the end of the warning semester results in academic probation (with restricted enrollment). Failing to return to good standing by the end of the probation semester results in academic dismissal (one calendar year out) and, on a further failure after readmission, permanent academic exclusion (reversible only via Academic Renewal after five years away).

To qualify for a baccalaureate degree from Georgia College, students must maintain a minimum 2.0 institutional grade point average, earn a grade of C or higher in ENGL 1101, and satisfactorily complete all outstanding I, IP, TN, or NR grades, among other degree requirements.

President's List: a term average of 4.0 on 12 or more semester hours, with no grade of I, F, or WF during the semester.

Dean's List: a term average of at least 3.5 on 12 or more semester hours, with no grade of I, F, or WF during the semester.

Latin Honors (baccalaureate degrees only) require a minimum Georgia College Regents' Cumulative GPA and overall GPA of: Cum Laude 3.60-3.74, Magna Cum Laude 3.75-3.89, Summa Cum Laude 3.90-4.00. If the two averages differ, the lower one determines the honors designation.

Georgia College only accepts credit hours transferred from regionally accredited institutions. Since Georgia College does not accept plus/minus grades, transferred plus/minus grades are equated to the base letter on a 4.0 scale (for example, both B- and B+ become B).

Transfer GPA is used holistically in admission decisions; once admitted, academic standing is evaluated using the institutional (Georgia College-only) GPA, while a student's combined cumulative GPA (institutional plus transfer) is one factor in graduation-honors eligibility.
