Foothill College GPA Calculator

Grades of P (Pass) and NP (No Pass) are not counted in your GPA. The Non-Evaluative Symbols — I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), RD (Report Delayed), W (Withdrawal), EW (Excused Withdrawal), and MW (Military Withdrawal) — are also excluded from GPA calculation, though a W can still be used as a factor in probation/dismissal procedures and enrollment limits.

If you repeat and pass a course at Foothill in which you previously earned a substandard grade (D, F, NP or W), the substandard grade is excluded from your GPA calculation, though it remains visible on your transcript. State law allows repeating a course up to twice to remove a substandard grade. You may also petition to have a substandard grade (D+, D, D-, F, NC or NP) excluded from your Foothill GPA if you subsequently pass an equivalent course at another accredited college or university.

Once you've attempted at least 18 quarter units, you're placed on Academic Notice if your cumulative GPA at Foothill falls below 2.0, and removed once it returns to 2.0 or higher.

You're placed on Progress Notice once enrolled in at least 18 quarter units if the percentage of your units graded F, I, NC, NP, or W reaches or exceeds 50%, and removed once that percentage drops back below 50%.

A student already on Academic Notice is subject to Pause after five consecutive quarters with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 in all graded units attempted; a student on Progress Notice is subject to Pause after five consecutive quarters (excluding summers) at or above the 50% F/I/NC/NP/W threshold. A pause bars enrollment for one regular quarter (excluding summer) and is noted permanently on the transcript.

Associate-degree graduates who complete at least 18 quarter units in residence at Foothill qualify for: Highest Honors (4.0 GPA in all Foothill coursework), High Honors (at least 3.5 GPA), or Honors (at least 3.3 GPA).

The Dean's List is awarded quarterly to full-time students completing 12+ Foothill units with at least a 3.5 GPA that quarter, and to part-time students with 12+ cumulative units and both an overall and quarterly GPA of at least 3.5.

The President's Medal goes to first-time degree recipients with a 4.0 GPA across all college coursework, including 60 resident units at Foothill, awarded at commencement to students who petition to graduate by June 1.

Foothill accepts lower-division coursework previously completed at a college accredited by one of the six U.S. regional accrediting associations, via official transcripts sent directly to the Admissions & Records Office.

Coursework from a foreign institution must be evaluated by a foreign evaluation service and cannot be used for certification to a four-year institution. Credit from a non-regionally-accredited college may be petitioned for individual major-requirement courses but is non-transferable toward a bachelor's degree, an AS-T, or an AA-T — it applies only within Foothill College's own programs.
