Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) GPA Calculator

A student's grade point average is computed by multiplying the credits earned in each course by the numerical value of the grade received, summing the grade points across all courses, and dividing the total by the number of credits attempted. Credits attempted for a course graded I, T, W, P, Q, or N are disregarded in that calculation.

Students may repeat a course as many times as they wish for an improved grade, but may not choose the better of the two grades: the most recent grade is the one used to determine cumulative GPA, and only credits from the repeated course count toward graduation requirements.

To remain in good standing for financial aid, a student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and complete at least 67% of cumulative credit hours attempted. A student who fails to meet these standards for one term is placed on Warning; two consecutive terms of non-compliance results in Termination of aid eligibility. A student can return to good standing by raising cumulative GPA to 2.00 or higher and completion rate to 67% or higher. Termination may be appealed; an approved appeal places the student on Probation, requiring a 2.00 term GPA and passing all classes each term to avoid moving to Termination.

Candidates for an Iowa Western Community College degree, diploma, or certificate must attain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

Full-time students who earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or above are named to the President's Honor Roll. Students who have completed at least 12 credit hours toward an associate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above are invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

Graduates are recognized at commencement and on the official transcript according to cumulative GPA: 3.5-3.69 graduates with "Honors"; 3.7-3.89 with "High Honors"; 3.9 or above with "Highest Honors."

Iowa Western Community College accepts credit from an accredited college or university (institutional accreditor recognized by the U.S. Department of Education) where the student earned a grade of "C" or higher. Only the credit transfers; the grade earned at the other institution does not affect the student's cumulative GPA and does not appear on the Iowa Western transcript.
