Central Community College (CCC) GPA Calculator

At registration, students may select from three grading options unless a course has been designated with a specific grade option: Standard Grade (the grades used to establish grade-point average), Pass/No Pass (no letter grade is issued and the course does not affect GPA; a passing grade requires a “C” average or better), and Audit (no credit or points; a fee applies and financial aid/veteran’s benefits cannot count audited courses toward course load). Students who do not declare an option automatically use the standard grade option, and — with the exception of auditing — a chosen option is binding once the free add/drop period ends.

GPA is determined by dividing total grade points earned by total credits for which a standard grade (A+, A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, F) is awarded. Courses numbered below 1000 (Foundations classes) never count toward college GPA, even though a Foundations course completed with a “C” or better can still count toward other requirements. An Incomplete (“I”) carries no grade-point value of its own and is calculated as an “F” in the GPA until the grade-change contract is completed, at which point the GPA is recalculated with the earned grade. When a course is retaken (“R”), the higher of the two grades earned is the one used in the GPA calculation.

The college’s Standards of Progress require maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and a course completion rate of 67% or higher. Students may also remove up to two complete semesters’ worth of grades from their cumulative GPA through Academic Bankruptcy: the courses and grades remain on the permanent transcript (marked “Approved for Academic Bankruptcy”) and the credits no longer count toward graduation, but the grade-point factors are removed from the GPA. To qualify, a student must complete 15 sequential credit hours at Central Community College with a term GPA of 2.5 or higher immediately following the term(s) to be bankrupted; a student may use Academic Bankruptcy at most twice in a lifetime, and it cannot be reversed once completed.

A cumulative GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) is required to receive any CCC degree, diploma, or certificate. Students must complete at least 25% of a degree or diploma program’s credit hours at CCC (one-half for a certificate). Pass/No Pass credits may be applied toward graduation only up to a cap: 12 credit hours for degrees, 6 for diplomas, and 3 for certificates. Students have five years from first enrollment to complete their program under the catalog in effect at that time, and may elect to substitute requirements from any later catalog within that five-year window.

Each Fall and Spring term, CCC recognizes academic achievement through two honors lists: the President’s Honors List for a 4.0 semester GPA, and the Dean’s Honors List for a semester GPA between 3.5 and 3.99. A student must complete at least 12 graded credit hours in the semester to receive an award certificate; those completing 6 to 11 graded credit hours receive a letter of achievement instead. Degree-seeking students who finish with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher are recognized as “Completed with Honors” on the official transcript.

To transfer credit into CCC, a course must come from a regionally accredited institution, be similar in content to a CCC course, and have been completed with a grade of “C” or better. Through the Nebraska Transfer Initiative, a student who completes the articulated Associate of Arts general education core with a “C” (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) or higher and transfers to a participating institution is guaranteed standing comparable to a continuing student with the same number of completed credits. Students pursuing Reverse Transfer — earning a CCC associate degree using coursework completed after transferring to a four-year institution — must have completed 25% of CCC’s degree requirements and hold a 2.0 GPA to qualify.
