Grading Scale
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln uses an A through F grading scale. Grades of W (dropped/withdrew), I (Incomplete), P (Pass, interpreted as C or better), N (No Pass), and NR (No Report) carry no grade-point value and are not used in computing a student's grade point average.

GPA Calculation Rules
The cumulative GPA reflects all University of Nebraska coursework taken at the Lincoln, Omaha, and Kearney campuses, based on total quality points earned divided by total semester hours attempted.
Under the Course Repeat Policy, if a student repeats a course after previously earning a grade below C, only the most recent grade is used in the cumulative GPA; the earlier grade remains on the transcript but is excluded from the GPA calculation.
A student may petition for Academic Bankruptcy, removing one or two complete semesters from the cumulative GPA and degree consideration, after completing 15 hours at a 3.00 GPA or 30 hours at a 2.50 GPA in a later semester.

Academic Warning and Dismissal
Students are placed on Initial Academic Warning when their term or cumulative GPA falls below 2.00; the status is removed after completing a semester of coursework with both semester and cumulative GPA above 2.00. A second consecutive semester below 2.00 results in Academic Warning Before Dismissal.
Dismissal is tied to cumulative attempted credit hours: at 1–18 hours, dismissal follows a cumulative GPA below 1.00 after more than one semester enrolled; at 19–45 hours, dismissal follows a prior cumulative GPA below 2.00 with both semester and cumulative GPA below 1.75, or three consecutive semesters of Academic Warning; at 46 or more hours, the same pattern applies at a 2.00 threshold. A dismissed student is denied enrollment for at least two consecutive semesters before applying for readmission.

Academic Honors
Chancellor's Scholars recognizes graduating seniors who have earned a grade of A in all graded collegiate work (a P grade for Pass/No Pass courses), with at least 42 graded semester hours completed at UNL by the fall semester of their graduation year.
Each semester, the Dean's List recognizes students in each undergraduate college who earn at least a B+ average in a specified number of courses.
Colleges may recommend graduating students for graduation with distinction, high distinction, or highest distinction; specific criteria vary by college.
