North Central Texas College (NCTC) GPA Calculator

NCTC grades on a 4.0 scale with five letter grades: A (4 grade points), B (3), C (2), D (1), and F (0), assigned per semester hour based on class work, examinations, and general classroom performance.

There is no A+ and no plus/minus grading at all — A itself, at 4.0, is the top of the scale.

Some departments and programs do not accept a grade of "D" as a passing grade, even though D still carries 1 grade point toward your GPA.

Your cumulative GPA is the total college-level grade points you've earned divided by the total college-level credit hours you've attempted. College Preparatory coursework is never used in your cumulative GPA, though it does count toward your current-term GPA.

If you repeat a course you originally took at NCTC, only the higher grade counts toward your cumulative GPA.

Grades of "AU" (Audit), "P" (Pass), "W" (Withdrew), and "I" (Incomplete) carry no grade-point value and are not counted in your GPA. On the pass/fail option, a passing grade earns no grade points, but a failing grade is still counted in your GPA.

You're placed on Academic Probation if your cumulative GPA is below 2.0 at the end of a Fall, Spring, or Summer semester. You stay on probation as long as your cumulative GPA is below 2.0, even if your semester GPA is 2.0 or higher, and you're released only once your cumulative GPA reaches at least 2.0.

While on probation, you're placed on Academic Suspension if, by the end of the next semester, both your cumulative GPA and your term GPA are still below 2.0.

NCTC does not permanently suspend students for poor academic performance, though a history of probation, suspension, or appeals is considered in any future appeal.

Submit your graduation application by March 15 for a May graduation, or October 15 for a December graduation, to be considered for on-time processing and to have your name and any honors published in the commencement program. Applications submitted after the deadline are still processed, but may miss the program listing.

Graduation applications expire at the end of the academic year in which they're submitted. NCTC confers degrees three times a year (fall, spring, summer) and holds formal commencement ceremonies twice a year (May and December).

You may graduate under the degree plan from the catalog in effect at the time of your first enrollment, a later catalog, or the current catalog, provided the program is still offered and the catalog is no more than 5 years old at the time you meet the requirements.

NCTC awards two levels of graduation honors based on your cumulative GPA, measured at the end of the Fall semester before a May graduation, or the end of the summer session before a December graduation:

You need a minimum of 29 hours earned at NCTC to be considered for graduation honors.

If you transferred to a four-year university before finishing your associate degree, NCTC's reverse transfer option lets you complete it afterward: credits earned at the four-year school are evaluated against NCTC's degree requirements, and you must meet NCTC's residency requirement.
