Grading System

Atlanta Technical College uses a letter-grade system on a 4.0 scale. Grade point values are: A = 4.00, B = 3.00, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, F = 0.00, WF (Withdrew Failing) = 0.00. Both F and WF are calculated in the GPA. Faculty may use plus/minus modifiers as feedback during the semester, but the grade submitted as the permanent transcript record is a letter grade only — no plus/minus grades appear on the official record.

The following symbols carry no grade-point value and are not calculated in the GPA: I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), P (Pass), W (Withdraw), WP (Withdrew Passing), AU (Audit), N (Non-credit), EX/EXE/EXP (Credit by Exam/Portfolio), TR/TRA/TRB/TRC/TRP (Transfer Credit), TRM (Transfer Credit–Military), AC (Articulated Credit), U (Unsatisfactory), Z (COVID-19 Withdraw).

Workplace Essential Skills grades are kept separate and do not affect the academic GPA.

GPA Calculation Rules

The GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's credit hours by the grade points earned, summing the quality points across all courses, and dividing by the total credit hours attempted.

Cumulative GPA (CGPA) is calculated on all attempts at all credit courses taken at Atlanta Technical College. Retaking a course does not remove the earlier grade — all attempts count toward the CGPA.

Graduation GPA (GGPA) is calculated using only the courses required for your specific program of study. When a required course is repeated, only the final or highest grade is used. A GGPA of 2.0 is required to graduate. The GGPA excludes credits earned at other institutions, learning-support coursework, credit-by-examination credits, and any credits for which the college does not assign quality points.

Semester GPA (SGPA) reflects grades earned in the current semester only.

Academic Standing

Good Standing: A semester GPA of 2.00 or higher.

Academic Warning: A semester GPA below 2.00. The college issues a warning to prompt improvement in academic performance.

Academic Probation: Continued semester GPA below 2.00. Students on probation should work with their academic advisor to develop a plan for improvement.

Academic Suspension: Failing to achieve a semester GPA of 2.00 for three consecutive semesters results in academic suspension. Students on suspension must sit out one full semester before applying for readmission.

Academic Discharge (Suspension 2): Failing to achieve a semester GPA of 2.00 for four or more consecutive semesters results in academic discharge. Students on discharge must sit out one full academic year before applying for readmission.

Transfer Credit

Atlanta Technical College evaluates transfer credit from regionally accredited colleges, universities, and postsecondary institutions. A minimum grade of C is required for transfer consideration.
