How the GPA Is Calculated

Grade Point Average (GPA) is determined by dividing a student's total number of grade points by their total number of semester credit hours (SCH) attempted. Grade points are not awarded in developmental courses, and grades earned in developmental courses are not included in the computation of GPAs. Transfer hours count toward hours attempted but are not included in the computation of cumulative GPA.

When a student repeats a course, total attempted SCH stays the same and the grade from the most recent attempt is used in the GPA computation; the original grade remains on the student's permanent record.

Under state law, students may petition to have all courses attempted 10 or more years earlier disregarded when determining their cumulative GPA (Academic Fresh Start). This does not remove any grades from the transcript and may be invoked only once per student.

Academic Notice, Warning, and Suspension

Academic status is re-evaluated at the start of each fall and spring term based on GPA.

  • Academic Notice: semester GPA below 2.0 with a cumulative GPA still at or above 2.0 — a hold is placed on the account and a mandatory online resource workshop is required for hold removal.
  • Academic Warning: cumulative GPA below 2.0 — hold on account until a cumulative GPA of 2.0 is achieved, enrollment limited to 1-2 courses, and a mandatory advisor meeting to set an action plan.
  • Academic Suspension: semester GPA below 2.0 while already on Academic Warning — the student must sit out one long semester (including summer), the account hold continues until cumulative GPA reaches 2.0, and enrollment remains limited to 1-2 courses on return.

GPA and Residency Requirements for Graduation

Associate degrees require completion of at least 60 semester credit hours with a cumulative Lee College GPA of 2.0 or higher, with at least 25% of the required hours earned at Lee College.

Certificates require the minimum semester hours set for the certificate with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, with at least 50% of the required hours earned at Lee College.

Students within 3-9 SCHs of completing an associate degree may petition to participate in commencement as "future graduates" if their overall GPA is 2.5 or higher.

Graduation with Honors

Students in associate degree programs may graduate with honors if they complete at least 50% of their degree's coursework at Lee College with an overall GPA of 3.5 or better. Honors designations announced at commencement:

  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.86 to 4.00
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.75 to 3.85
  • Cum Laude: 3.5 to 3.74

Transfer Credit and GPA

Grade points earned at other institutions are not transferred to Lee College; a student's cumulative GPA is based solely on grades earned at Lee College. Courses in which a student earned a grade of "D," "F," or "Incomplete" will not be accepted as transfer credit. Transfer hours are counted toward hours attempted but are not included in the computation of cumulative GPA.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Lee College?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Lee College?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Lee College GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
