How the GPA is calculated at ENMU

Only the letter grades A, B, C, D, and F carry grade points and count toward the ENMU GPA. The GPA is the total grade points earned divided by the total credit hours attempted in those graded courses. Grades of I, S, U, W, CRE, and NC earn no grade points and are excluded from the GPA.

A course may be repeated to replace a grade. All enrollments and grades stay on the transcript, but only the highest grade earned is used to calculate the GPA and to determine degree-requirement completion.

Academic warning, probation, and suspension at ENMU

  • Academic Warning — applies to first-time freshmen with fewer than 17 earned credit hours whose GPA falls below 2.00. Students must complete an academic intervention program; if the cumulative and semester GPAs aren't raised above 2.00 the next term, the student moves to probation.
  • Academic Probation — applies to students with an ENMU institutional GPA below 2.00. A student remains on probation until both cumulative and semester GPAs reach at least 2.00, or until suspended.
  • Academic Suspension — applies after a semester GPA below 2.00 while already on probation. The first suspension bars enrollment for one regular semester, the second for one calendar year, and a third bars enrollment from the University for five years.

Minimum GPA to graduate from ENMU

An institutional GPA of 2.00 or above (on the 4.00 scale) is required to graduate from Eastern New Mexico University. Students who fall below good academic standing may be placed on warning, probation, or suspension before that floor is reached.

Academic and graduation honors at ENMU

ENMU recognizes Academic Honors at the end of each regular semester for students who complete at least 15 hours of coursework (audit and repeated hours don't count) with a semester GPA between 3.25 and 4.00.

Graduation Honors (baccalaureate degrees only) are awarded on the overall GPA prior to a student's final enrollment:

Transfer and exam credit at ENMU

ENMU awards credit toward a degree for AP, CLEP, DSST, and IB exam scores, for military service, and through a limited ACT/SAT credit-by-examination program that maps qualifying English and Math sub-scores to specific ENMU courses. Credit sources must be mutually exclusive — the same subject area can't be credited twice through different exam types.

Combined credit from any mix of exam-by-examination routes (ACT/SAT, AP, CLEP, DSST, course challenging) is capped at 30 credit hours for an A.A./A.S. degree, or 45 credit hours for any bachelor's degree.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at ENMU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at ENMU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
