How grading works at BUTEX — and the one exception for Lab courses
BUTEX grades every course on a 10-letter scale from A+ (4.00) down to F (0.00), with no letter grade between D and F. Grades are based on Continuous Assessment and Final Examination marks combined.
Theory and Lab courses share the same scale down to the D/F line, but the pass floor differs there. A mark of 40–44% is graded D (2.00) and counts as a pass for a Theory course. For a Lab, Industrial Attachment, Project, or Comprehensive course, that same 40–44% mark is graded F (0.00) instead — those course types need at least 45% (grade C, 2.25) to pass. This calculator applies the Theory reading to every course, since it matches Bangladesh's national UGC grading standard and Theory courses make up the large majority of BUTEX's credits; a Lab-type course you scored 40–44% in is a fail under BUTEX's own rules even though this tool will show it as a D pass.

Promotion, re-take, and grade-improvement rules at BUTEX
To be promoted from one Level to the next, a student needs a CGPA of at least 2.20 and no more than 4 failed courses cumulatively — 5 or more cumulative F grades blocks promotion. Level-1 Term-I students who fail more than 4 courses in that term must retake it with the next batch as regular students.
A Lab, Industrial Attachment, Project, or Comprehensive course specifically requires at least grade C (2.25) to pass — falling short (even with 40–44%, which would pass a Theory course) blocks promotion to the next term and requires re-admission in the same term with the next batch.
A student who fails a Theory course can sit a Re-take examination in the next available term, but is capped at grade B in that course regardless of performance. Grade improvement (for any course graded below B) follows the same B cap and is limited to 4 courses across the entire program; no improvement is allowed in Lab/Sessional courses or after graduation.
Re-admission is capped at 3 times over the whole program, and a student who cannot complete the degree within 7 academic years (including any punishment period) is dropped from the program.

Does BUTEX grade Lab courses the same as Theory courses?
No. BUTEX's Academic Regulations set separate pass floors: a Theory course passes with grade D (40–44% counts as 2.00), but a Lab, Industrial Attachment, Project, or Comprehensive course needs at least grade C (45%, 2.25) to pass — the same 40–44% mark is a fail (F, 0.00) for those. This calculator's grading scheme applies the Theory reading (matching Bangladesh's national UGC standard) to every course, so a Lab course scored 40–44% will show as a D pass here even though BUTEX's own rules grade it F.
