Course Repetition and Academic Renewal
When a repeatable course is repeated, every attempt's grade counts toward the GPA. For a non-repeatable course repeated after a substandard grade (D, F, FW, NC, or NP) or a W, up to two repeats are allowed; only the most recent grade is computed into the cumulative GPA, and the prior grade and credit are disregarded even if the prior grade was higher.
Academic Renewal lets a student petition to disregard up to 30 semester units of substandard prior work (only D, F, and FW grades qualify), after completing at least 12 further semester units with a 2.00 GPA or better. The renewed coursework stays on the transcript but is removed from the GPA calculation.

Academic and Progress Standing
Victor Valley College evaluates standing in three levels, tied to cumulative GPA and to the share of attempted units recorded as W, I, or NP.
- Level I — Probation: Academic Probation applies after attempting at least 12 units with a cumulative GPA below 2.00; Progress Probation applies after attempting at least 12 units with 50% or more of attempted units recorded as W, I, or NP.
- Level II — Subject to Dismissal: reached at the end of the second consecutive semester if the same condition persists.
- Level III — Dismissal: reached at the end of the third consecutive semester if the condition still persists.
- Probation or dismissal status clears once cumulative GPA returns to 2.00 or higher, or the W/I/NP share drops below 50%.
