How GPA Is Calculated
GPA is computed by dividing total units attempted (including units for courses that are repeated) into total grade points earned.
- Pass/No Pass symbols (P, NP, and their former CR/NC equivalents), plus Incomplete (I) and Withdrawal (W), carry no grade points and are excluded from both units attempted and grade points earned.
- In calculating a degree-applicable GPA, grades earned in non-degree-applicable courses are not included.

Withdrawals and Academic Standing
The "W" (Withdrawal) symbol is not used in calculating grade point averages, but excessive withdrawals are used as a factor in probation and dismissal procedures.
