GPA and Repeat Rules

A student's cumulative GPA (the "index") equals the total quality points earned divided by the total credit hours for which quality points were received.

Students may repeat a maximum of four different courses. The most recent letter grade earned counts toward the cumulative GPA and degree requirements; prior grades remain on the transcript and in the term GPA for the semester recorded, but are excluded from the cumulative GPA.

An Incomplete ("I") is computed as a failing grade until resolved, and automatically converts to an F if the coursework is not completed by the last day of the following semester.

A student who previously withdrew with an unsatisfactory GPA and has been absent at least three years may apply for a "Fresh Start": prior grades and grade points remain on the transcript and in the term GPA, but Fresh Start grade points are excluded from the cumulative GPA, though the earned credits still count toward cumulative earned hours.

Probation, Suspension and Dismissal

Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to be in "good academic standing"; individual programs may set higher requirements.

A student is placed on academic probation when the cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 for the prior semester, and may remain on probation for up to two consecutive semesters while working to return to 2.0 or higher.

Continued failure to improve while on probation may lead to academic suspension or dismissal. A suspended student may petition to return as a non-matriculated student; a dismissed student is not eligible for readmission.

Students may appeal a probation, suspension, or dismissal decision in writing within ten days of receiving notice.

Graduation and Degree Requirements

The minimum cumulative GPA required for undergraduate graduation is 2.0 (3.0 for Education majors). A minimum grade of "D" is required in General Education courses, and a minimum grade of "C" is required in courses used to fulfill major and minor requirements (some programs require higher).

The last 30 credits toward graduation must normally be completed at Molloy.

Dean's List and Degree Distinction

The Dean's List of Distinguished Full-Time Students requires a minimum semester scholastic index of 3.60, with at least 12 credit hours taken for letter grades; a student who receives an Incomplete is not eligible for that semester.

Degree distinction at graduation (minimum 60 letter-graded credits earned at Molloy) is awarded by cumulative index: Cum Laude at 3.60 or better, Magna Cum Laude at 3.75 or better, and Summa Cum Laude at 3.90 or better.

Transfer Credit After Matriculation

Credit for courses taken at another institution while matriculated at Molloy (with prior permission) is accepted only for a grade of "C" or better; a "P" grade is accepted only if the other institution designates it as equivalent to "C" or better. A student's major department may require a higher grade for the course to count toward the major. Transfer credit totals are limited to the totals defined in Molloy's transfer policies.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Molloy University?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Molloy University?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Molloy University GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
