Grade Point Average (GPA) Rules
GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of units attempted. Instructors may use plus/minus grading at their discretion, as stated in the course syllabus.
Pass (P) and No Pass (NP) grades are not used in the calculation of the GPA. A grade of P requires work equivalent to "C" or better; NP requires work equivalent to "D" or below. Units earned with a grade of P count as units completed; NP is not counted as units attempted or completed.
Non-evaluative symbols — I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), and RD (Report Delayed) — are not used in the computation of grade point average.
Effective Fall 2025, non-degree-applicable courses are included in GPA calculations (this policy excluded such courses from Spring 2008 through Summer 2025).
