Antelope Valley College (AVC) GPA Calculator

A student who earns a substandard grade ("D," "F," or "NP") may repeat that course once without special approval; only the most recent grade is used in AVC's GPA calculation, though the earlier grade remains on the transcript. Repeating a course in which "A," "B," "C," or "P" was earned instead requires the Dean of Enrollment Services' written permission, generally only after 36 months have passed and the course is needed as a refresher.

Through Academic Renewal, a student may petition once to have up to 30 semester units of AVC coursework, taken in consecutive semesters, excluded from their AVC cumulative GPA. Only "D" and "F" grades qualify for removal under this policy.

A student who has attempted at least 12 semester units is placed on academic probation when their earned GPA in all AVC units attempted falls below 2.0, and on progress probation when 50% or more of attempted units carry a "W," "I," or "NP." Probation is lifted once a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better is restored, or the "W"/"I"/"NP" rate drops back below 50%.

A student on probation for three consecutive semesters — through a sub-2.0 GPA, an excessive "W"/"I"/"NP" rate, or a combination of both — is subject to dismissal at the end of each semester.

Every AVC associate degree (AA, AS, and transfer degrees) requires, among its other requirements, attainment of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

Each fall and spring semester, AVC recognizes students completing at least 12 units with a 3.5-3.74 GPA on the Dean's List, and those with a 3.75-4.0 GPA on the President's List (pass/no-pass units are not counted toward either).

Graduates are recognized with honors based on their final graduating GPA: Cum Laude (3.25-3.49), Magna Cum Laude (3.50-3.74), and Summa Cum Laude (3.75-4.00).

To transfer to a California State University campus, a student generally needs a minimum 2.0 GPA in all transferable coursework, in addition to meeting CSU's other subject and eligibility-index standards.
