Only A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D and F carry grade quality points and count toward the cumulative GPA. Incomplete (I), Withdrawal (W), Passing (P), No Credit (N) and Audit (AU) are recorded on the transcript but never affect the GPA, even though some print a placeholder value of 0.0. Grades of S, P, U, I, N, W and X do not carry grade quality points at all.

GPA is computed as total quality points divided by total credit hours (Quality Point Total ÷ Total Credit Hours = GPA), where a course's quality points equal its credit hours multiplied by the grade's quality-point value.

Courses graded D, D+ or F may be repeated for credit, with the best attempt used in the cumulative GPA. A course graded C or higher may not be repeated to improve the GPA unless it is designated repeatable or an exception is approved. Students may attempt any course twice with regular fees; a third attempt permits no withdrawal or Incomplete and requires full cost of instruction (Florida Statute 1009.285) absent an approved exception.

An Incomplete (I) becomes an F (or, in developmental education, an N) if not completed by the instructor's deadline, no later than the following term's midterm. A grade of P earned through examination credit (AP, CLEP, departmental exams) does not affect the GPA; a grade of F under the Pass/Fail option does.

At the end of the term in which a student attempts the 13th credit hour, and every term after, the student must earn credit in at least half of all attempted hours and reach a minimum cumulative GPA based on hours attempted: 1.50 for 13-35 hours, 1.75 for 36-45 hours, and 2.00 for 46 or more hours. Falling short moves a student through Academic Warning, then Academic Probation, then Academic Suspension or Dismissal, each with its own re-enrollment appeal process to the Assistant Dean, Academic and Student Affairs.

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 is required to earn a baccalaureate degree, Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or certificate -- combining Pensacola State College coursework with any transfer credit -- along with completing at least 25% of program requirements in residence at the College.

Full-time students (12+ credit hours) earn the President's List at a 4.0 term GPA, or the Dean's List at 3.50-3.99. At graduation, baccalaureate and associate degree students receive Cum Laude (3.50-3.74), Magna Cum Laude (3.75-3.99), or Summa Cum Laude (4.0) based on cumulative GPA; career-certificate students receive Honors (3.50-3.74) or High Honors (3.75-4.0).
