How GPA Is Calculated
Grade point averages (GPA) are calculated by dividing the number of grade points earned by the number of units attempted.
- Courses graded P, NP, SP, CRE, I, IP, or RD are not counted in the GPA — excluded from both grade points earned and units attempted.
- In calculating a student's degree-applicable GPA, grades earned in nondegree courses are not included.

Pass/No Pass and Transfer
Units earned Pass/No Pass count toward community college curriculum requirements, but other colleges and universities may restrict acceptance of Pass/No Pass coursework, particularly for general education and major requirements. Pass units should not be used to satisfy major requirements for an Associate Degree or for transfer.
