F/FIN Retake Exclusion & Repeat Course Policy

A student who earns a grade of F or an administrative failing grade (FIN) and later retakes the course with a grade of C or better will no longer have that F or FIN grade computed into the GPA, subject to: the policy has applied since Fall 1990; the original failing grade must have been earned after September 1, 1984; a maximum of 16 failing credits may be deleted from the GPA across all of CUNY; the grade remains on the transcript but is excluded from the GPA calculation; the original F must have been earned at LaGuardia; and partial deletions are prohibited.

Under the Repeat Course Policy (effective Fall 2022), students are limited to one repeat per course for courses in which a passing grade was already earned, and may repeat no more than 3 courses in total. For a repeated course, the GPA reflects the highest grade earned.

Graduation & Dean's List Honors

A graduate with a cumulative GPA between 3.50 and 3.89 is graduated "with honors"; a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or better earns "with high honors," inscribed on the diploma and noted on the transcript.

The Dean's List honors students each semester who have earned 9.0 or more credits, achieved a 3.50 semester GPA, received no grade of F, FIN, D+, D, D-, INC, R, WU, or Z, and maintained a 2.00 cumulative GPA.

Transfer Credit (TCR)

Students who transfer to LaGuardia with credits earned at other accredited colleges and universities receive the Transfer Credit (TCR) grade, which carries no grade-point value and is not calculated in the GPA. Transfer credits are evaluated by the Transfer Credit Office based on guidelines set by the academic department. Students may receive a maximum of 50% of the required credits for a certificate in transfer toward that certificate, and up to 30 transfer credits toward a degree.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at LAGCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at LAGCC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this LaGuardia Community College (LAGCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
