GPA and CGPA rules

GPA is computed each Term as the credit-weighted average of grade points earned; CGPA is the cumulative version across all Terms to date. Both are rounded to two decimal places for reporting. F grades and non-credit courses (graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) are excluded from the GPA/CGPA calculation, though an F stays permanently on the transcript.

A student who fails a core course (F) must repeat it; a failed optional course may be repeated or substituted. Repeating a previously failed course caps the new grade at B+. A D grade may be repeated for improvement only if CGPA is below 2.20; a grade of C or better cannot be repeated for improvement unless CGPA is below 2.20.

CGPA may be converted to an equivalent percentage using the university's own formula: for 3.75–4.00 CGPA, % = 79 + 80 × (CGPA − 3.75); for 2.20–3.75 CGPA, % = 44 + 20 × (CGPA − 2.00).

Academic probation

A student is placed on academic probation if their Term GPA or CGPA falls below 2.20. The minimum probation period is one Term, though a full academic year is usual. A student on probation who fails to raise their GPA to at least 2.20 across two consecutive academic years may be suspended from the University.

Graduation requirements

The minimum CGPA required to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Urban & Regional Planning degree is 2.20. Students must also complete a minimum of 160 credit hours, of which no more than 150 may be core courses, within a maximum of 7 consecutive academic years.

Honors, Dean's List, and Gold Medal

Bachelor's degrees are awarded with Honors if the graduate's CGPA is 3.75 or better. The Dean's List recognizes students who maintain an average GPA of 3.75 or above across both Terms of an academic year with no F grade in either Term. The University Gold Medal is awarded to the top-ranked graduate in each department whose CGPA is 3.75 or above, who completed the degree within four consecutive academic years with no F grades and satisfactory attendance.

Transfer credit

A student may transfer up to 50% of the required theory courses completed at another public university or institution, provided the courses were taken within the previous 5 years, the student earned a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) with no F grade, and there was no discontinuity of study.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at KUET?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at KUET?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
