Grading System
San Francisco State University grades coursework on the standard A-F scale. Letter grades B, C, and D may take a plus or minus suffix, and A may take a minus but not a plus; the grade of A+ is not used.
Some courses may be taken Credit/No Credit (CR/NC) instead of a letter grade. CR and NC do not carry grade points.
Other grading symbols include I (Incomplete Authorized), RP (Report in Progress), RD (Report Delayed), W (Withdrawal), and AU (Audit); none of these carry grade-point credit. IC (Incomplete Charged) and WU (Withdrawal Unauthorized) are each treated as equivalent to F and are counted toward the GPA.

GPA Calculation and Grade Forgiveness
Grade point average is determined by dividing total grade points earned by total units attempted in courses in which A-F grades are assigned.
Undergraduate students may repeat up to 16 units of SF State coursework under the Course Repeat Policy to exclude the original grade from GPA determination; the lower of the two grades is forgiven, applied automatically at the end of each term. Forgiveness does not apply to courses where the original grade followed a finding of academic dishonesty, and has been in effect since the end of fall 2017 (not retroactive).

Academic Standing
Undergraduate students with a 2.0 GPA or better are in good academic standing. Students whose SF State and/or combined cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 are placed on academic notice.
Undergraduate students become subject to academic disqualification if their term GPA is below 2.0 and their SF State and/or combined cumulative GPA falls below: 1.50 as a freshman (fewer than 30 units), 1.70 as a sophomore (30-59 units), 1.85 as a junior (60-89 units), or 1.95 as a senior (90 or more units).

How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at SF State?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
