Grade point average (GPA) is determined by dividing total grade points earned by total grade point units completed.

Pass/No Pass (P/NP): units earned under a Pass or No Pass grading option are not counted in the GPA.

Administrative symbols — I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal), IP (In Progress), EW (Excused Withdrawal), and RD (Report Delayed) — are not used in the computation of GPA.

A course with a "C" or better grade generally may not be repeated, with exceptions for legally mandated training, disability-related accommodation, extenuating circumstances, or a significant lapse of time.

A course with an unsatisfactory grade ("D," "F," or "NP") may be repeated twice without a petition; only the newly earned units and grade are used in computing the GPA. No course may be attempted more than three times regardless of grade.

Academic renewal without course repetition: a student with a GPA below 2.0 not reflective of present ability may petition to have up to 30 units of substandard performance disregarded from the GPA, subject to conditions including one year elapsed and 15 subsequently completed units at a 2.0 GPA or better.

Students are in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and completion of more than 50% of attempted units.

Academic Notice: issued when a student's cumulative GPA falls below 2.0; the student returns to good standing once the GPA reaches or exceeds 2.0.

Academic Pause: a student on academic notice for three consecutive primary semesters is placed on pause and must complete a Student Academic Contract with a counselor before re-enrolling.

Lack of Progress Pause: issued when the percentage of cumulative units recorded as "W," "I," or "NP" reaches or exceeds 50%.

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (a "C" average) is required in degree-applicable coursework for the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Bachelor of Science degrees.

Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 12 degree-applicable semester units in residence within the San Diego Community College District is required.

Dean's Honor List: compiled annually for students completing 12 or more units during the academic year with a GPA of 3.5 or better.

Phi Theta Kappa (Beta Iota Lambda Chapter): membership requires 12 completed units toward an associate degree and a GPA of at least 3.25.

Graduation with Distinction: Honors at a 3.5 GPA, High Honors at a 3.75 GPA, and Highest Honors at a 4.0 GPA, based on degree/certificate-applicable coursework.

Graduation with Latin Honors (baccalaureate degrees only): Cum Laude for a GPA of 3.5 up to 3.75, Magna Cum Laude for 3.75 up to 4.0, and Summa Cum Laude for a GPA of 4.0.

Official transcripts from other institutions must be on file and are accepted only within one year of issuance; they become the property of the college and are not returned.

The district accepts all lower-division coursework from U.S. regionally accredited colleges toward the Associate degree; upper-division courses transfer only by petition when needed to meet degree requirements.

International transcripts must be submitted to an approved credential evaluation service; foreign coursework is not made equivalent to SDCCD courses and cannot be used for transfer major or transfer general education requirements.

For the Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T), a minimum GPA of 2.0 in CSU-transferable coursework is required, though some CSU campuses or majors may require higher.
