San Diego City College GPA Calculator

San Diego City College uses P/NP (Pass/No Pass), I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal), IP (In Progress), EW (Excused Withdrawal), and RD (Report Delayed) as administrative symbols; none of these count toward a student's grade point average.

A grade of "Pass" (P) is awarded only for work that would otherwise receive a "C" or better; work that would receive a "D" or "F" is graded "No Pass" (NP). Units earned under Pass/No Pass satisfy curricular requirements but are disregarded when determining GPA.

GPA is calculated by dividing total grade points earned by total grade point units completed.

Each course in which an unsatisfactory grade ("D," "F," or "NP") was earned may be repeated up to twice without a petition; only the most recently earned grade and units are used in computing the GPA.

A student with a GPA below 2.0 may petition for Academic Renewal Without Course Repetition to have up to 30 units of substandard performance disregarded in the GPA calculation, once at least 15 subsequent units are completed with a 2.0 GPA or better and one year has elapsed since the original coursework.

Students are in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and completion of more than 50% of attempted units.

A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 is placed on Academic Notice, returning to good standing once the cumulative GPA reaches or exceeds 2.0. A student on Academic Notice for three consecutive primary semesters is placed on Academic Pause and must complete a Student Academic Contract with a counselor.

A student is placed on Lack of Progress Notice or Pause when the percentage of units recorded as "W," "I," or "NP" reaches or exceeds 50%.

A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 (a "C" average) is required in the curriculum upon which the degree or certificate is based, along with a grade of "C" or better (or "P") in each course required for the major.

Graduation with Distinction is based on GPA in coursework applicable to the degree or certificate: Honors requires an overall GPA of 3.5, High Honors 3.75, and Highest Honors 4.0.

For SDCCD baccalaureate degrees, Latin Honors are awarded at graduation based on cumulative GPA: Summa Cum Laude at 4.0, Magna Cum Laude from 3.75 up to (but excluding) 4.0, and Cum Laude from 3.5 up to (but excluding) 3.75.

Credit from other colleges or universities requires an official transcript sent directly from the issuing institution and on file with the college; transcripts are accepted only within one year of issuance, and copies brought in by students outside a sealed official envelope are considered unofficial.

For the Associate in Arts/Science for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T), a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework is required, with a grade of "C," "P," or better in each course in the major.
