How GPA is Calculated
Gulf Coast State College computes GPA by multiplying each course's quality-point value by its semester credit hours, then dividing the total quality points earned by the total semester hours counted for GPA (including transfer work). Grades of S, P, NS, R, W, and X do not carry quality points, and credits earned under these grades generally do not count toward the GPA. A No-Show (NS) grade is recorded as NSF and calculated in the GPA as an F.

Academic Standing
Good Academic Standing requires a minimum overall GPA of 2.0. A term overall GPA below 2.0 places a student on Academic Warning; the warning is cleared by achieving a minimum term overall GPA of 2.0 the following term. A student who has not earned an overall GPA of 2.0 by the end of a term is placed on Academic Probation for the next term and limited to six credit hours (additional hours require an approved form). Failing to reach a 2.0 overall GPA during a probation term results in Academic Suspension for the following term, with the right to appeal. A student returns to Good Academic Standing upon achieving an overall GPA of 2.0.

GPA Requirement for Graduation
Graduation requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. For bachelor's degrees, this means completing at least 120 semester hours with at least a "C" average (2.0 GPA) across an all-college cumulative GPA that includes both Gulf Coast State College coursework and transferred credit in lower- and upper-division courses, along with at least 30 of the final 36 hours completed in regular courses at GCSC.

Graduation and Semester Honors
At graduation, With Honors (cum laude) requires a 3.50-3.69 GPA, With High Honor (magna cum laude) requires 3.70-3.89, and With Highest Honor (summa cum laude) requires 3.90-4.00. Each semester, degree-seeking students earning 12 or more credit hours qualify for the President's List at a 3.90-4.0 semester GPA, the Dean's List at 3.70-3.89, or the Honors List at 3.00-3.69; part-time students earning 6-11 credit hours qualify for the Honors List with 6 or more credit hours completed and a semester GPA of 3.00 or above.

Transfer Credit and GPA
Only courses with a grade of "C" or better are accepted for transfer credit. For students transferring to GCSC with a bachelor's degree or higher, the cumulative GPA used for a subsequent GCSC degree includes only courses completed at GCSC itself, not the prior transferred coursework.
