GPA Calculation & Repeated Courses

Grade point average is calculated by dividing total grade points earned by total semester hours attempted for graded courses. Grades of I, W, NR, and X are not used in the computation of GPA, and grades earned in college-preparatory courses do not count toward GPA either.

Students may repeat a course to improve a grade previously earned in a D, F, or FN course, per State Board Rule 6A-14.0301, limited to two forgiveness attempts per course; the best grade earned is used for GPA. A student may have only three total attempts at any course (original grade, repeats, and withdrawals combined); a fourth attempt requires an academic appeal. GPA calculations for financial-aid purposes may include all attempts.

A student may withdraw from a course without academic penalty up to the published withdrawal date, limited to two withdrawals per course; on a third attempt the student must receive a letter grade (A, B, C, D, or F) and may no longer withdraw.

An Incomplete (I) grade may be assigned at the instructor's discretion, for non-academic reasons, if the student has completed at least 75% of the coursework and is passing at the time of the request. Unfinished work automatically converts to an F if not completed within the prescribed timeframe (normally the first eight weeks of the following term).

Academic Fresh Start & Standing Warnings

The Academic Fresh Start policy lets a student whose cumulative GPA is below 2.0 exclude up to 16 hours of "F" grades from their cumulative GPA calculation, granted once per student. To qualify, the student must not have enrolled in graded college-level coursework anywhere for two consecutive calendar years; after re-admission, the student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with no "F" grades and a term GPA of at least 2.000 in each such term, while the recalculated cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 before the fresh start is granted. Excluded grades are marked "FX" on the transcript; the original grades still appear, and institutions a student transfers to may still count them when evaluating admission.

Students with an excessive number of W or I grades, or who repeat courses to improve their GPA, may jeopardize their admission to programs in the State University System of Florida or other institutions.

President's List & Dean's List

Degree-seeking students are recognized for academic excellence each term via the College President's List or Dean's List, posted to the transcript three weeks after term completion. Both lists require at least 6 credit hours enrolled in the term and a minimum of 12 credit hours earned at FSCJ (excluding transfer and college-preparatory courses), plus a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

ListTerm GPA required
President's List3.75–4.0
Dean's List3.5–3.74

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at FSCJ?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at FSCJ?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
