How Your GPA Is Calculated

GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of credit hours attempted. Grades of Satisfactory, Pass, Withdrawal, Incomplete, and Audit do not receive grade points and have no effect on GPA.

When a course is repeated, the letter grade earned in the final attempt is used to calculate the GPA. A student is limited to a total of three attempts to earn a satisfactory grade in a course (the original attempt plus two repeats).

Standards of Academic Progress

Students are required to earn and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to remain in Good Academic Standing. Falling below a 2.0 cumulative GPA moves a student through a sequence of standings: Academic Warning, then Academic Probation, then Academic Suspension (one semester, not automatically reinstated), then Academic Dismissal (three consecutive semesters). A student is reinstated to Good Academic Standing at any point by raising their cumulative GPA back to 2.0 or higher; earning a 2.0 or higher term GPA without yet reaching a 2.0 cumulative GPA places a student on Continued Probation rather than escalating further.

Minimum GPA for Graduation

Associate degrees and certificates require a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher. Baccalaureate degrees require an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, except students pursuing a degree in education, who must earn a 2.5 GPA or higher in all coursework; individual programs may require a higher GPA for graduation.

Dean's List and Phi Theta Kappa

The Dean's List is published each Fall and Spring semester for students completing 12 or more credits with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and no grade below a "C". Membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society requires a 3.5 or higher overall GPA (excluding college-prep courses) and completion of 12 college credit hours, among other eligibility criteria.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at FSW?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at FSW?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
