Grade points are computed by multiplying the number of credits completed by the grade value earned (for example, a B in a 3-credit course earns 9 grade points). The term GPA divides total grade points earned in a semester by total credits attempted that semester; the cumulative GPA does the same across every course ever attempted and is maintained on a continuing basis.

When a course is repeated, only the most recent grade counts toward the cumulative and curriculum GPA — the earlier grade and its quality points no longer apply, though all attempts remain on the transcript. Students are normally limited to two enrollments in the same course, except seminars and internships.

Students separated from the college for at least five years who earn a 2.5 GPA in their first 12 credits back may qualify for academic renewal, which removes D and F grades from the cumulative and curricular GPA calculation (all grades stay on the transcript); degree credit is granted only for courses graded C or better before the renewal.

Students are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 (C) to remain in good academic standing.

• Academic warning is issued for any semester in which a student's GPA falls below 2.0, or if the student fails any course.
• Academic probation applies once the cumulative GPA falls below 1.5, and is noted on the transcript.
• Academic suspension applies to a student on probation who attempts 24 semester credits without raising the cumulative GPA to 1.5; it normally lasts one term, and readmission requires a written appeal to the dean of student services.
• Academic dismissal applies if a returning student fails to reach a 2.0 GPA in the first term back, or 1.5 in any later term; it is normally permanent, with readmission only by special consideration.

Each semester, students with a GPA of 3.8 or higher (minimum 12 credit hours, no grade below C) are placed on the President's List; students with a GPA of 3.2 or higher under the same conditions are placed on the Vice President's List.

At graduation, students earn Latin honors based on cumulative GPA: Summa Cum Laude (3.8 or higher), Magna Cum Laude (3.5 or higher), and Cum Laude (3.2 or higher).
