MiraCosta College grades on a 4.0 scale with five letter grades: A (4.0), B (3.0), C (2.0), D (1.0), and F (0.0).

There is no A+ and no plus/minus grading at all — A itself, at 4.0, is the top of the scale.

Pass/No Pass grades (P, NP) and Satisfactory Progress (SP, noncredit only) carry no grade points and are not computed in your GPA. Several other marks also carry no grade points and are excluded: I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), RD (Report Delayed), W (Withdrawal), EW (Excused Withdrawal), and MW (Military Withdrawal).

Your GPA is the total number of grade points earned divided by the total number of letter-graded units attempted: multiply each course's units by its grade points (for example, a "C" in a 5-unit course earns 5 × 2 = 10 points), add those totals across all letter-graded courses, then divide by the total letter-graded units.

Courses taken Pass/No Pass do not affect your GPA, though they may affect financial-aid eligibility.

You're placed on Academic Notice if you've attempted at least 12 semester units with evaluative grades and your GPA falls below 2.0. You're removed once your cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher.

You're placed on Progress Notice if 50% or more of at least 12 attempted units carry non-evaluative grades (W, I, or NP).

If you remain on Academic Notice for two consecutive semesters with a cumulative GPA still below 2.0, you're subject to Academic Pause and must sit out at least one regular semester before returning.

An associate degree requires 60 semester units of degree-applicable lower-division coursework, including at least 18 units in your major or area of emphasis and at least 21 units of general education.

You need a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in your degree-applicable courses, with at least a "C" or "P" in each course counted toward your major, plus at least 12 degree-applicable units completed in residence at MiraCosta.

Some University of California campuses and impacted UC/CSU programs require a higher GPA than MiraCosta's own associate-degree minimum.

The President's List recognizes students who complete at least 12 graded units in a single regular semester with a semester GPA of 3.5 or better.

The President's Permanent Honor Roll requires at least 60 degree-applicable units at MiraCosta, President's List placement in three or more semesters with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, and no grade lower than "C" or "P."

Students in the Biomanufacturing Bachelor's Degree Program may graduate with Latin Honors based on their baccalaureate-level GPA: Cum Laude (3.50–3.74), Magna Cum Laude (3.75–3.84), or Summa Cum Laude (3.85 and above).

MiraCosta grants degree credit for coursework completed at other institutions accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, evaluated against MiraCosta's own courses and general-education pattern.

Credit from quarter-system schools is converted at one quarter unit = two-thirds of a semester unit (for example, 3 quarter units become 2 semester units).
