Grading System

Course work is evaluated under a standard grading system established by Board Policy 07.17. Only competency-based education courses are evaluated on mastery rather than the standard letter scale; each department sets a mastery level no lower than a C, reflected in the course information form and syllabus.

How GPA Is Calculated

Grade point average (GPA) is calculated by dividing the total grade points earned by the total semester hours attempted; only courses at the 040 level or above count. Semester GPA reflects one term, cumulative GPA reflects all coursework taken at Lake Land College.

W (Withdrawal), U (Audit), and I (Incomplete) are not used in averaging grades and carry no credit; P (Pass) is not used in averaging but does carry credit. An Incomplete not resolved by the mid-term date of the next scheduled semester automatically converts to an F.

For non-repeatable courses, only the most recent grade and hours count toward the cumulative GPA when a failing grade is replaced with a passing one; for courses designated repeatable, all attempts count.

Academic Standing

Minimum cumulative GPA to remain in good academic standing rises with credit hours attempted: 1.5 at 12-20 hours, 1.6 at 21-29, 1.7 at 30-38, 1.8 at 39-47, 1.9 at 48-55, and 2.0 at 56 or more hours.

A student meeting the minimum standard but below a 2.0 cumulative GPA is placed on Good Academic Standing - Warning and must enroll in Strategies for Success (SFS 101). A student falling below the minimum standard after 12 or more attempted hours is placed on Academic Probation, limited to 14 semester hours in fall/spring (6 in summer), and must earn a 2.00 semester GPA or reach the minimum cumulative standard to be removed from probation.

A student on probation who fails to meet that standard is academically suspended for the following term; a student who fails again after returning from suspension is dismissed for at least one calendar year.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Lake Land College?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Lake Land College?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Lake Land College GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
