How grading works at Butler University
Butler is on a 4.0 grading system. Letter grades run from A down to F, with plus/minus modifiers available on A, B, C, and D — there is no A+, and F carries no plus or minus variant. A is worth 4.00 grade points; F is worth 0.00.

How your GPA is calculated at Butler University
Your GPA is figured by dividing the total number of hours attempted into the total number of grade points earned.
Not counted toward your GPA: W (Withdrawal), P (Passing/pass-fail), PV (Pass with validation), AUD (Audited course), NC (Non-credit enrollment), NR (Grade not reported), I (Incomplete), X (Unredeemed incomplete), T (Transfer credit), and Z (undergraduate course taken by a graduate student).
If you repeat a course, only the second attempt counts toward your GPA; this applies to both undergraduate and graduate students. Under the pass/fail option, you may elect up to four courses from your total undergraduate degree for pass/fail credit — a passing grade (D- or above) does not count in your GPA, but a failing grade is recorded as an F and does.
