How Grades Affect Your GPA

A grade of "F" will not be counted against a student's grade point average provided the course is repeated and a better grade earned; the record will reflect the true average, though the grade report itself will not discount repeated "F" grades. When a passed course ("D" or "C") is repeated for grade improvement, the better grade becomes the official grade of record.

An "I" (Incomplete) is computed as an "F" until the course requirements are met, and must be removed by the end of the following semester or it automatically becomes an "F." A "W" (Official Withdrawal) and an "AU" (Audit) are not computed in determining the grade point average.

Academic Warning, Probation & Satisfactory Progress

To move assuredly toward a degree, a student should maintain the following cumulative grade point average:

Total Semester HoursCumulative GPA
1-61.25
7-121.35
13-201.55
21-352.00
36-492.00
50-642.00
For Graduation2.00

A student who fails to maintain the minimum GPA at the first level (6 hours passed, minimum semester GPA of 1.25) is placed on Academic Warning. Failing to attain the second level (12 hours passed, minimum cumulative GPA of 1.35) places the student on Academic Probation. A student who does not reach a cumulative GPA of 2.00 with 21 or more semester hours passed remains on Academic Probation and may be restricted from federal financial assistance, scholarships, and other benefits.

Transfer Credit Policy

Credit earned at other regionally accredited institutions may be considered for credit at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Transfer credit is evaluated as transcripts are received, with the Registrar determining course equivalency and having final authority on acceptance; credit hours are adjusted to the Northwest semester-hour scale.

Courses transferred in do not count toward the Northwest GPA, but are included in the Cumulative GPA for Mississippi Community College Board audit purposes. A student transferring in who intends to graduate from Northwest with an associate's degree must complete at least 15 hours at Northwest in the area of study (content-specific for Career-Technical or Health Science programs).

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at NWCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at NWCC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Northwest Mississippi Community College (NWCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
