How grading works at CCSF
City College of San Francisco grades credit coursework on a 4.00 scale: A (4), B (3), C (2), D (1), and F (0). CCSF does not use plus or minus grades — there is no A+, A-, B+, or any other modified letter grade.
A sixth symbol, FW (Failing/Withdrawal), is also graded at 0 points and "calculated into the GPA in the same manner as an F grade." FW is used when a student stops participating in a course after the withdrawal deadline without earning a passing grade and without an approved excused withdrawal.

How your GPA is calculated at CCSF
Your grade point average is the number of grade points earned divided by the number of units attempted. A 4.00 GPA is an A average, 3.00 is a B average, 2.00 is a C average, 1.00 is a D average, and 0.00 is an F average.
Grades of P (Pass), NP (No Pass), W (Withdrawal), I (Incomplete), and MW (Military Withdrawal) do not affect your GPA. Only credit courses count toward the GPA — "all credit courses offered by City College of San Francisco are graded courses as defined by Title 5, California Administrative Code."

Academic notice and dismissal at CCSF
A student who has attempted at least 12 units is placed on academic notice if their GPA in all units where grades were given falls below 2.00. To be removed from academic notice, a student needs an overall cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher across all City College units.

Dean's Honor List and graduating with honors at CCSF
Students completing at least 12 semester units in a fall or spring semester (counting only courses graded A-F) with a GPA of 3.30 or higher, in good academic standing, are placed on the Dean's Honor List.
Graduating with a final GPA between 3.30 and 3.49 earns honors; between 3.50 and 3.74 earns high honors; 3.75 or higher earns highest honors.
